How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives. - Annie Dillard
We live in a world whose pace often feels unrelenting and isolating, a feeling New York City only amplifies. Technology, overworking, and constant stimulation leave little room for the things that, we believe, matter most—namely presence, connection, and real shared experiences.
225 is a NYC-based Supper Club that exists to create a refuge from that implacable pace by building a community rooted in three pillars: slowing down, sharing good food, and being present with one another. We do this by hosting monthly dinners at members' apartments across the city.
Our three pillars
Slowing Down
Sigà, Sigà (see-gah) is a Greek phrase that means ‘slowly, slowly’. It reflects a simple truth that the Greeks, enviably, figured out millenia ago: life is best lived when we move with intention rather than urgency.
Modern life prizes speed: immediate responses, constant availability, a perpetual urge to move faster. But we were not built to sustain such velocity for long periods of time. Sustaining it leads to burnout, stress, and, ultimately, apathy and disassociation (the Greeks would not approve).
Sigà, Sigà offers an antidote. It doesn’t ask us to stop or disengage, nor does it mean we should become lazy or unambitious. Instead, it points to a paradox: meaningful momentum requires slowing down. There is a difference between acting fast and being fast. Acting fast fragments attention. Being fast means filtering noise, focusing, and executing with precision.
225 intentionally designs experiences in spaces that allow members to slow down and reflect. We seek to offer our members a necessary catalyst for embodying the mindful, blissful, intentional rhythm the Greeks have long spoken of.
Sharing Good Food
Food is powerful. It nourishes both body and mind. Food also connects us to memory, culture, and, most importantly, one another. Across history, every civilization has gathered around a table, using food to create meaning and shared identity. Think of your top 10 moments within the last year. We’d wager 70+% of them involved food.
At 225, we focus on simple, seasonal dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. No course exists in isolation; each one carries cultural context and is served with purpose.
Being present with one another
Presence is a natural derivative of the first two pillars. Being fully present with others is not easy, especially in unfamiliar social settings. Anxiety, self-consciousness, and distraction often stand in the way.
We aim to create a space designed to help people from all walks of life feel comfortable, welcomed, and included. It’s also a sanctioned excuse to get out of the house. Consider this your sign. It’s time to eat.
